Vidago The Vidago’s heritage is on its inhabitants, people who recognize the value of others, an history made out of benefactors who gave name to streets, squares and avenues, and to which were built monuments and statues, tributes from the people to the people. Archaeological legacy Just 16 km from the old Aquae Flaviae roman city, this is a region of enormous archaeological richness, spread through places that keep the ancient times characteristics and offer us the opportunity to look over a past framed on a traditional daily life of welcoming people. The rock carvings, the forts, the altars, the millenary milestones and the monuments prove the authenticity of a fertile region in archaeology and other historical values.br> The Flaviense regional museum, inserted in one of the most emblematic monumental complexes which composes Chaves city is a testimony of the passage of Iberians, Romans and Arabians through this land. The sixteen arch roman bridge, over the Tâmega river, and the ruins of a 14th century castle at the historic centre of Chaves city, are examples of this heritage that encourages history lovers to visit the region. Douro valley The Oporto wine cradle is a natural master piece dominated by the human effort. Between the village of Barqueiros and the Spanish border, with a hot and dry climate, the Douro valley is mainly composed out of a river, vineyards, great landscapes and a thousand year history connected with the Oporto wine production, with its hills covered of vineyards cultivated on terraces, on cliffs and canyons shredded by the Douro river, punctually they give place to large watersheds and calm waters surrounded by mountain scenarios. An imposing landscape that changes throughout the year, with its red and golden colours coming from the vineyards at fall and the white rose of the flowering almond threes in February and March.
